Basic Pistol 101

The classroom portion of the course will be held at Liberty Firearms Institute. Once you reach LFI, please park in the lot on the South side of the building. As you come through the main doors, continue past the front desk and turn right into the hallway, just before the entrance to the retail store. The classroom will be on the right side about 30 feet down the hallway. If you have any questions, the front desk staff will be able to direct you to the classroom.

If you have not previously completed a background check at LFI (for membership or to shoot on the range, for instance) you will need to do so during the class before the range portion starts. There is a one-time fee of $10 for the background check. This is a requirement by the City of Johnstown for anyone who wishes to shoot at LFI and only needs to be done once. When you come back in the future, you will not have to pay this fee and your information will be in the LFI computer for greater convenience.

Please bring all of your personal belongings and equipment with you to the classroom portion. Please make sure that the pistol you bring is UNLOADED and in a case. Additionally, please leave all ammunition in the factory box or package until we transition to the range. In addition to your class materials, bottled water will be provided for you. Other than this, all you will need is a teachable attitude – we’ll do the rest!

The range session for this course will be held downstairs and we have secured an entire range for this course. If you have never shot at LFI, we know you will be impressed by this amazing facility.

• Quality, working, serviceable pistol – Please bring your pistol to the course unloaded and in a case. If you do not own your own pistol, you may rent one from LFI’s great selection.
• Minimum 2 magazines (LFI may/may not have spare magazines for your pistol, please check with them directly.)
• 50 rounds of ammunition (Factory produced ammo only. No home reloads allowed due to insurance.)
• Eye and ear protection (These are available for purchase from LFI at the class or loaner pairs are also available.)
• Baseball style hat (to keep brass from getting behind eye pro)
• Personal food. Bottled water will be provided
• Closed toe shoes
• Appropriate clothing for the activity—we highly suggest wearing a shirt without a scooped neckline to prevent hot brass burns.
• A photo ID for the LFI background check, if you have not already completed it
