SUMMARY:Extended Specified Semiautomatic Firearms
DESCRIPTION:Beginning August 1\, 2026\, Colorado law requires individuals purchasing certain specified semiautomatic firearms (SSFs) to complete state-approved firearms safety training before completing their purchase. \nThe Extended Firearms Safety Course is Colorado’s comprehensive 12-hour training option established by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW). This course is designed for individuals who have not completed a CPW-recognized Hunter Education course or who choose to complete the full training program. Students must obtain a Firearms Safety Course Eligibility Card through their county sheriff before enrolling. Successful completion of this course satisfies Colorado’s training requirement without the need for a separate Hunter Education course. \nWhat You’ll Learn\n\nFirearm safety fundamentals\nSafe handling\, loading\, unloading\, and storage\nSafe transportation of firearms\nColorado firearm laws and legal responsibilities\nMental health awareness and suicide prevention\nExtreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs)\nVictim awareness and responsible firearm ownership\nPractical firearms demonstration\nRequired written examination\n\nTuition: $199 (Normally $224) \nClass size: 20 students \nDate and Time: Saturday\, September 26th 10:00 am- 6:00 PM and Sunday\, September 27th 10:30 AM- 2:30 PM \nLocation: Liberty Firearms Institute\, Johnstown\, CO \nStudents must complete Steps 1–3 of the SSF Customer Journey before registering for this course. \nThe registration form includes two required fields specific to the SSF course that must be completed: \n\nCPW Application # – Enter the eligibility number provided to you by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW).\nSheriff’s Office Eligibility Card – Indicate Yes or No to confirm whether you have received your eligibility card.\n\nPlease note that registrations submitted without both required fields completed will be placed on a waiting list until the missing information is received and verified. \nPlease verify your eligibility before registering. Although Makhaira Group will verify eligibility for the course\, it is up to the student to ensure registration for the correct course.  \nImportant Information\nAttendance on both training days is required. Your instructor will submit your course completion to the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Firearms Training and Safety Course Record System. \nUnlike the Basic Firearms Safety Course\, the Extended Firearms Safety Course does not require prior completion of Hunter Education and independently satisfies the state’s training requirement. \nPlease verify your eligibility before registering. Although Makhaira Group will verify eligibility for the course\, it is up to the student to ensure registration for the correct course. There will be no refunds or credits provided to students who register for the wrong course. \nYou do not need to be a member of LFI to attend our course. DESCRIPTION:This course will build your rifle shooting fundamentals and basic skills with the tactical rifle. This course focuses on the AR-15/M4 weapon system but you are allowed to use the AK-47 if you choose. Using the “crawl\, walk\, run” philosophy\, students will learn and practice basic and intermediate tactical rifle skills and shooting fundamentals both in the classroom and on the live-fire range. You are welcome to bring and use an electronic optic but you must be able to remove it and have serviceable iron sights. \nThe class is taught by Makhaira Group certified instructors in a safe and professional classroom and range. \nTopics Covered\n\nFirearms safety\nFundamentals of shooting\nAmmunition ballistics\nDisassembly and assembly\nMechanical operation\nCare and cleaning\nZeroing iron sights\nTactical carry and employment\nUse of cover\nTactical reloading\nMarksmanship and accuracy improvement\nMalfunction clearance (Stoppage drills)\nTactical gun-handling\nSimulated stress fire\n\nRequired Equipment\n\nGood working\, serviceable AR-15/M4 with installed shoulder stock and adjustable tactical sling. Rentals are not available for this course.\n300 rounds of rifle ammunition (Factory\, non-steel core ammo only for indoor courses.  Please check your ammo if there is any question.  Additionally\, no home reloads allowed due to insurance.)\n3 magazines minimum and method of carry**\nEye protection (clear or yellow for indoor courses)\nEar protection (electronic preferred)\nBaseball style hat (to keep brass from getting behind eye pro)\nPersonal food (optional).  Beverages will be provided and while we will not take a formal break\, you may eat during the classroom portion if you choose.\n\nLocation\nLiberty Firearms Institute\n4990 Ronald Reagan Blvd\nJohnstown\, CO 80534
