DESCRIPTION:Beginning August 1\, 2026\, Colorado law requires individuals purchasing certain specified semiautomatic firearms (SSFs) to complete state-approved firearms safety training before completing their purchase. \nThe Basic Firearms Safety Course is the 4-hour training option established by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW). This course is intended for students who have already completed a CPW-recognized Hunter Education course and meet the eligibility requirements outlined by Colorado law. Students must also obtain a Firearms Safety Course Eligibility Card through their county sheriff before enrolling. Successful completion of both Hunter Education and this Basic Firearms Safety Course satisfies the training requirement for eligible applicants. \nWho Should Take This Course \nThis course is designed for students who have: \n\nSuccessfully completed a CPW-approved Hunter Education course.\nReceived a Firearms Safety Course Eligibility Card from their county sheriff.\nCompleted Steps 1–3 of the SSF Customer Journey.\n\nIf you have not completed a CPW-approved Hunter Education course\, you should register for the Extended (12-hour) Firearms Safety Course instead. \nWhat You’ll Learn\n\nSafe firearm handling and operation\nFirearm storage and child safety\nSafe transportation of firearms\nColorado firearm laws and legal responsibilities\nMental health awareness and suicide prevention\nExtreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs)\nVictim awareness and responsible firearm ownership\nPractical firearms demonstration\nRequired written examination\n\nTuition: $99 (Normally $124) \nClass size: 60 students \nDate: Friday\, August 7\, 2026 \nTime: 9:30 AM- 1:30 PM \nLocation: Liberty Firearms Institute\, Johnstown\, CO \nStudents must complete Steps 1–3 of the SSF Customer Journey before registering for this course. \nThe registration form includes two required fields specific to the SSF course that must be completed: \n\nCPW Application # – Enter the eligibility number provided to you by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW).\nSheriff’s Office Eligibility Card – Indicate Yes or No to confirm whether you have received your eligibility card.\n\nPlease note that registrations submitted without both required fields completed will be placed on a waiting list until the missing information is received and verified. \nPlease verify your eligibility before registering. Although Makhaira Group will verify eligibility for the course\, it is up to the student to ensure registration for the correct course. \nCourse Completion \nStudents must successfully complete both the written examination and the hands-on practical demonstration.
