Range Safety Officer

Makhaira Group is looking for part-time and full-time staff to fill positions as Range Safety Officer.  Qualified candidates will be based out of and work at Liberty Firearms Institute in Johnstown, Colorado.

As a Range Safety Officer at Makhaira Group, you will be interacting with a variety of people from all over the world who are seeking a safe and fun shooting experience at Liberty Firearms Institute. Communication, attentiveness and a desire to help others is required for potential candidates. Candidates must possess effective communication skills

Duties & Responsibilities

Range Safety Officer (RSO) duties and expectations include, but are not specifically limited to:

  • Ensure strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at all times.
  • Supervise and direct a safe and efficient range.
  • Enforce all firearms and range safety rules on the range.
  • Conduct range safety briefings when and as necessary.
  • Act as an ambassador for the range by providing excellent customer service to all customers.
  • Be an example to all customers by practicing safe firearms handling and following all range safety rules.
  • Conduct range opening and closing inspections and procedures.
  • Assist shooters with stoppages, malfunctions and other issues or questions on the range.
  • Control the range and lead or assist with any emergency procedures.
  • Advise the Range Marshal of any mechanical or facility issues that may need attention or repair.
  • Notify the Range Marshal of any issues or discrepancies that occur on the range.
  • Complete all necessary reports for any issues, discrepancies or emergencies that occur on their range.
  • Check out and return any equipment needed for range operations.
  • Assist in facility security by monitoring attendance and ensuring that only members or guests are in the range areas.
  • Conduct customer firearms checks and brief members/guests on range rules, range commands and range etiquette.
  • Know and execute emergency response plans when required.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Range Marshal or Makhaira Group management.

Liberty Firearms Institute in Johnstown, Colorado.

Work Schedule

Varies according to your schedule and range needs.  Both full and part-time positions are available.

Salary & Benefits

  • $16/hour during probationary period of 90 days.
  • $17/hour after successful completion of probationary period.  Future increases will depend on the result of planned performance reviews.
  • Starting position does not include benefit options.  Benefit options may be available in the future.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 21 years or older.
  • Certified as an NRA Range Safety Officer or equivalent.  If you do not have this qualification, we are able to provide the training and must be completed prior to employment. We will provide this training free of charge if successful probationary period is achieved.
  • Certified in Basic First Aid/CPR/AED (American Heart Association of equivalent).  If you do not have this qualification, we are able to provide the training and must be completed prior to employment.  We will provide this training free of charge if successful probationary period is achieved.
  • Able to pass a background check prior to employment.
  • Able to pass a non-DOT urinalysis prior to employment.
  • One year experience in the firearms industry or a directly related field desired.
  • Some experience in customer service and public relations.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade required.
  • Strong public relations and communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge and principles of firearms (pistols, rifles, and shotguns) and the shooting industry.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn new products in a timely manner.
  • Observe accurately and remember names, faces, numbers, incidents, and places.
  • Naturally friendly and positive daily attitude.
  • Highly self motivated/able to work without direction.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities.
  • Desire to learn new skills and accept responsibility.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain by starting date, a valid Colorado Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements

  • Work inside at a shooting range facility.
  • Ability to stand or sit for an extended period of time.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds, kneel, push, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, grasp and walk.
